Fines for Failing to Comply

Beginning on July 1st, 2021, if a new or renewed tenancy is signed on a Putorino rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items must be finished within 90 days.

Putorino Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies that were signed in the period between July 1st 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • The insulation of the ceiling and underfloor is compulsory throughout Putorino and New Zealand rental houses where it is reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Statement of Intent to Comply along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement must be included with any renewed, new or varied tenancy agreement.
  • Property managers and landlords are required to keep records that prove compliance with any Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will apply to their rental properties.

From 1 July 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords must make sure their rental properties conform with the Healthy Homes Standards within 90 days of a new, renewed or varied tenancy.
  • All boarder houses (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered boarding home tenancies) must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time the tenancy began.

Starting 1 July 2023

  • All homes let from Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy first began.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rental homes must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of when the tenancy began.
