Tenancies established beginning on 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2021

  • Insulation of the underfloor and ceiling is required throughout Meeanee and New Zealand rental houses where it’s reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Statement of Intent to Comply, an Insulation Statement and an Insurance Statement should be included with any renewed, new or altered tenancy contract.
  • Property managers and landlords must keep records that prove the compliance with all Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be in force during the tenure of an apartment rental.

Starting 1 July 2021

  • Private landlords and property managers are required to ensure their rental properties conform in accordance with Healthy Homes Standard within 90 days of a newly renewed, extended or changed Tenancy.
  • All boarding homes (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered boarder home tenancies) must adhere to the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date the tenancy was started.

Starting 1 July 2023

  • All homes that are rented out through Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and Community Housing Providers that are registered are required to comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of when the tenancy first began.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rental houses must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date when the tenancy started.
