Fines for Failing to Comply

From the 1st of July in 2021, once a new or renewed contract is signed on a Meeanee rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items have to be completed by the end of 90 days.

Since the 1st July of 2021, when a new, renewed or varied Tenancy is signed for the Meeanee rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance work must be taken care of inside of 90 days.

Meeanee Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies commenced from 1 July 2019 to the 30th June in 2021

  • Ceiling and underfloor insulation is a requirement in all Meeanee and New Zealand rental houses where it’s reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement An Insulation Statement as well as an Insurance Statement should be included with any renewed, new or amended tenancy agreement.
  • Property managers and landlords have to keep records that prove the compliance with any Healthy Homes Standard that apply or will be applied during the tenancy of the rental property.

From July 1st 2021

  • Property managers and private landlords have to ensure their rental properties comply with the Healthy Homes Standard within 90 days of a newly renewed, extended or changed tenancy.
  • All the boarding households (except Kainga Ora and registered Community Housing Provider for boarding home tenancies) must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date when the tenancy started.

From 1 July 2023

  • All households which are rented from Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers are required to comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date the tenancy was started.

From 1 July 2024

  • All rentals houses must be in compliance with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the date when the tenancy started.
